Welcome to my Substack
A brief introduction to who I am and what this Substack will be
Who is Jacob Titus?
After unceremoniously being passed on in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 NHL drafts, I made the tough decision to quit a potential ‘Hall of Fame’ worthy playing career and – as a coping mechanism – move into the world of hockey journalism.
Since trading a stick and puck for a press badge, I’ve been fortunate enough to write stories for Capital Current. There, I co-created and produced a mini documentary on a member of the Japanese men’s hockey team.
While completing my studies in Carleton University’s journalism program, I had secured the opportunity to intern with The Hockey News.
On the magazine side, I helped edit and fact check nearly a dozen features across two editions, December’s Money & Power Edition and January’s Rookie Edition. As for the website, I revised articles on tight deadlines and was even able to carve out enough time to publish three bylines, myself — which included a historical deep dive on how the NHL’s controversial ‘loser point’ came to be.
I was able to turn that three week internship into a position with the company, as a writer and editor of THN’s Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League site – where I’ve already published over a hundred articles since getting hired in June 2024.
As of September 2024, I’ve begun an internship with the Ottawa Senators. There, I’ve been lending a helping hand to the team’s communications department on game-days.
What to expect here?
This Substack will be used to publish anything not relating to my current role with The Hockey News. This includes anything from other journalism, to music reviews or even musings on life.

Even if I’ll never make the NHL history books, I hope that someday I am tasked to help write it.
